The Roaming is a free-roaming VR theatrical adventure by director Mathieu Pradat in which groups of eight spectators wearing headsets and barefoot navigate a virtual bayou landscape to protect two runaway children from a sinister pursuer. A live actor performs on stage alongside the audience, switching between characters in real time via motion capture and facial capture technology. The first chapter premiered at Venice Biennale 2018 with the full work presented in the Cannes Immersive Competition in 2024.
Demute co-produced the experience and delivered the sound design and spatial audio mix across a 7.1 surround system embedded in the 64m² physical stage.
